ISO 14083:2023 Greenhouse Gases — Transport Operations Quantification

All terms
SCROLL FOR THE DEFINITIONTRUSTEDTRUCKSN 52.52° / E 13.40°
01DefinitionInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO)

The international standard for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions arising from transport operations.

01 / CANONICAL DEFINITION

What it means.

Published in March 2023, ISO 14083 is the first binding international consensus standard establishing rules for calculating and allocating GHG emissions from transport operations across all modes. It builds directly upon the GLEC Framework and EN 16258, requiring primary operational data collection and strict Well-to-Wheel scope coverage.

02 / ROLE IN TRUSTEDTRUCKS

Where it is used.

Establishes the audit validation baseline for all TrustedTrucks verified freight corridors. Transport chain elements (TCEs) and cargo energy consumption are structured in accordance with ISO 14083 Clause 6 guidelines.

03 / TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

Requires distinct reporting of Well-to-Tank (WTT) and Tank-to-Wheel (TTW) greenhouse gases, expressed in kg CO2e, with explicit primary data quality indicator (DQI) ratings.

04 / WHAT IT MUST NOT IMPLY

Read it carefully.

Adherence to ISO 14083 quantification rules does not automatically constitute external third-party certification unless independently audited by an accredited verifier.
