01DefinitionProtocol Labs

A peer-to-peer distributed hypermedia protocol for storing and sharing content-addressed data.

01 / CANONICAL DEFINITION

What it means.

The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is a decentralized network for storing and retrieving files. Unlike location-addressed web URLs, IPFS addresses files by their cryptographic content identifier (CID), guaranteeing that document contents cannot be tampered with or altered without changing the address.

02 / ROLE IN TRUSTEDTRUCKS

Where it is used.

Used in the PT-0 Document Ratification Pipeline to pin immutable PDF/Markdown copies of ratified FRDs, audit reports, and master specifications.

03 / TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

SHA-256 multihash CIDs pinned across dedicated gateway nodes, with CID references committed on-chain to GoQuorum.

04 / WHAT IT MUST NOT IMPLY

Read it carefully.

IPFS provides tamper-evident storage, but is public unless data is explicitly encrypted before pinning.
