SCROLL FOR THE DEFINITIONTRUSTEDTRUCKSN 52.52° / E 13.40°
01DefinitionEuropean Commission / ISO 14083 / GLEC

The fundamental physical unit of freight transport work, representing one metric tonne of cargo carried over one kilometer.

01 / CANONICAL DEFINITION

What it means.

A tonne-kilometer (tkm) is the standard metric used to measure freight activity. It combines cargo mass and transport distance, allowing transport efficiency and greenhouse gas intensity to be normalized across diverse vehicle sizes, routes, and modes.

02 / ROLE IN TRUSTEDTRUCKS

Where it is used.

Acts as the standard denominator for all logistics efficiency metrics in the platform, calculating emissions intensity in grams of CO2e per tonne-kilometer (g CO2e/tkm).

03 / TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

Transport Work (tkm) = Cargo Weight (metric tonnes) * Transport Distance (km). For multi-drop routes, calculated per consignment leg.

04 / WHAT IT MUST NOT IMPLY

Read it carefully.

Must not be confused with vehicle-kilometers (vkm), which measure truck distance regardless of payload mass.
