01DefinitionIPCC / ISO 14064 / ISO 14083

The universal standard metric unit used to compare the climate warming impact of different greenhouse gases.

01 / CANONICAL DEFINITION

What it means.

Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO2e) is a metric measure used to compare the emissions from various greenhouse gases on the basis of their global-warming potential (GWP), by converting amounts of other gases to the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide with the same global warming impact.

02 / ROLE IN TRUSTEDTRUCKS

Where it is used.

All emissions and carbon insets in TrustedTrucks are denominated in metric kilograms of CO2e (kg CO2e) or metric tonnes of CO2e (t CO2e).

03 / TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

CO2e = Mass_CO2 * 1 + Mass_CH4 * 28 + Mass_N2O * 265 (using IPCC AR5 100-year GWP metrics).

04 / WHAT IT MUST NOT IMPLY

Read it carefully.

Must not be referred to simply as 'CO2' when multi-gas refrigerants or methane slip are present in the calculation.
