01DefinitionUnited Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)

The international legal treaty governing road freight liability and standardized consignment documentation.

01 / CANONICAL DEFINITION

What it means.

The CMR Convention standardizes the conditions governing transport contracts, consignment notes, and carrier liability for loss, damage, or delivery delays during international road freight transit across 58 contracting states. The electronic protocol (e-CMR) legalizes digital waybills.

02 / ROLE IN TRUSTEDTRUCKS

Where it is used.

Forms the legal foundation of all transport contracts on TrustedTrucks. The digital e-CMR waybill is generated on-chain, cryptographically signed by shipper, carrier, and consignee, and anchored to private GoQuorum blocks.

03 / TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

E-CMR data structure follows UN/CEFACT standards, incorporating SHA-256 digital signatures from verified key pairs at pickup, handover, and final delivery.

04 / WHAT IT MUST NOT IMPLY

Read it carefully.

A digital document is only a valid e-CMR if both originating and destination countries have ratified the 2008 e-CMR Protocol.
