01DefinitionComputer Science Standard

A computational model consisting of a defined set of states and strictly governed transitions between them.

01 / CANONICAL DEFINITION

What it means.

A Finite State Machine (FSM) is a mathematical model of computation. It is in exactly one state at any given time, transitioning to another state only in response to valid external inputs or events that satisfy defined precondition guard conditions.

02 / ROLE IN TRUSTEDTRUCKS

Where it is used.

Ensures that freight shipments, smart contracts, and carbon credits progress strictly along approved workflow paths (e.g. an order cannot transition to `DELIVERED` before `IN_TRANSIT`).

03 / TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

State transitions are atomic and validated against the SENRA 105-stage model. Invalid transition attempts throw structured 400 Bad Request errors.

04 / WHAT IT MUST NOT IMPLY

Read it carefully.

An FSM enforces sequence logic; it cannot verify whether the external physical real-world data triggering the transition is truthful without cryptographic telemetry proof.
